My whole computer has gone down in speed dramatically, running at about 10%
of what it used to. Nothing seems to be wrong with the actual set-up of
everything, it's like it waas before. I've run every vet program and even run
the malicious software program and it can't find any. Can anyone help me
becasue i really don't want to have to wip my whole computer. Thx

Ben,
Have you tried to scan for spyware? I had the exact same problem. I now scan
regularly, almost every day. This dramaticly improved my speeds. I scan with
all 3 because one might catch what another did not. Spyware can tax your
processor, memory and network or modem.

I use SpybotSD (Free software)...

AdAware personal(Also Free)...

MS Windows anti-spyware beta(Also free)..

I hope this helps.

Hi Ben,

Run these malware cleaners:

1. Lavasoft Ad-Aware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com
2. SpyBot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org
3. CWShredder - http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html

Update 1 & 2 before running a scan.

If you are running an older Celeron chip (2 years or more), it's possible
that it has begun to "bake up." These chips are known for heat related
problems and over time can slow way, way, down. Benchmark it to see if that
is the problem (free util on many shareware sites). If it is, replace it. If
not, you may have ram going bad because of heat, as well. Hope this helps.

In the years since they came out, the very first 233mhz versions if I
remember correctly, this was not correct and never documented by any
reputable source. I've still got a Dual Celeron 500mhz system that has
never been turned off, and runs MS SQL Server just as quickly as it did
from day one. I also have many other Celeron systems that are old and
none exhibit what you suggest.

In most cases it's lack of memory, drive fragmentation, spyware,
viruses, new AV software running a scan in the background that the users
doesn't see, etc....

Please provide a link for what you suggest.

In the mean time, the OP should try running quality AV software and a
couple different Anti-Spyware tools:

Read and follow these links as needed to fix your system:

Only download software you can validate as uncompromised - in the case
of non-vendor site you have no guarantee that the files are unmodified
or uncompromised. Anyone providing a link to a non-vendors site with a
direct download should not be trusted, the vendors sites are the safest
place to download their application.

Also, do not post your log files here - there are HiJack groups for just
that purpose, not to mention all the web based forums setup for looking
at them.

Always remember - only download files from Trusted Sites.

AdAwareSE can be found here:
http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

SpyBot Search and Destroy can be found here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Ewido Security Suite Trial can be found here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

You can also download Symantec Trial version of their Antivirus software
from here:
http://www.symantec.com/downloads/

Download AVG Personal Free edition from here:
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

These are the actual vendors sites, not some unknown or authorized no-
name site. They also don't artificially increase the hits for sites that
get paid for the amount of traffic they can generate like one poster has
admitted to in this group.

When running these application, install them, update them, then reboot
in SAFE MODE and run them again to get even more things.

If you take nothing else from this post, remember the following:

Only download files from Trusted Sites.
