Real time protection

T

Tom Emmelot

Hello All,

I was using "Windows Live Safety Center" (beta) The scan program try
to change 6 startup registry keys!
In Beta 1 a window came up asking to allow or deny, with Defender
nothing came up and nothing in the Allow list! I am also running Trend
Antispy with Venus Spy Trap and ask me to allow or deny those actions,
with the Beta 1, both of the programs ask me! So i think that the
Realtime protection is on a lower plan in Defender!
I shall do some more testing!

Hi Tom,

Have you turned on prompts for unknown software? We turned these off by
default - they're just too technical for the average user. Unfortunately,
our average beta user is not our average user. :) However, you will see
event log events for unknowns, regardless.

The Windows Defender real-time protection is actually vastly superior to
Beta 1. It's far more reliable, works for multiple users logged in, monitors
more locations, sends better telemetry to spynet, lets you unblock unknowns,
works properly on 64-bit, and allows you to block infected IE downloads in
archives.

The Allow list is actually for threats, not unknowns, we should fix that to
make it more clear.

But let us know what you find in your testing.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Tom
So i think that the Realtime protection is on a

Lower plan maybe, "out of logic" for someone trying to
use a PC instead of "Scanning a PC to death" :)

I personally hate all scans and the benefit with MSAS Beta 1
was the RTP. I can use other programs for scannings.

Really strange behaviors nevertheless...........

Please confirm if this is also your findings.

- You must be a advanced Spynet member to get notifys.

- Notifys must be checked, default unchecked. Tools General>Settings

- Strange within registry that it is only read permission for admins,
but maybe all settings is on system level ? When I tested and didn´t
get any notifys this was my first thing to check, are any settings
stored ?

- After a few simple test with for example Kazaa, I got RTP faults
during every start about "Permission denied". After reinstall I still
get this warning, Adminlog > Programs

- "Allowed list" not showing anything, seems to be dead.

- Going to test some more "heavy junk" as for example Errorsafe
with a lot of settings and a changes.

Not so good...........

plun
