I have a problem and need to determine what, if any , process tracker
for Windows XP (Home) will provide the information I require.
When my system is up and running, I have an unknown process or program
that is periodically executing, which can only be determined because it
momentarily opens a placeholder on the task bar (not tray), but has no
visible open window, nor any name that appears on the taskbar. In
fact, the appearance and disappearance of this phantom process is so
fast that there would be no way to read anything even if it showed
information, and it's too fast to pause the system while it's open.
What I am trying to determine is the best tool to use that will log
what process/program might be doing something that opens this phantom
window. I need something that tracks and logs all processes in real
time, so I can immediately check the log file when I see this phantom
window appear, so I can get to the root of the cause and determine if
it's friend or foe.
