Ready to use portable hd instead of networking headache!

At one time my network seemed to work fine. However, all of the sudden none
of them work. I've turned off all firewalls, deleted the drivers for all
network adapters and reinstalled, ran Network Setup Wizard I don't know how
many times. Here's the problems. All of them only see themselves in Network
Group none of them can see each other. I ran ipconfig/all to check all
settings here they are.

PC#1 Named Sec1
Has ethernet adapter Realtek RTL8139/810X
physical address 00-0c-76-9d-3e-a8
Dhcp enabled: no
IP address 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
(this pc also shows a second network adapter 1394 connection however I'm
only aware of the one ethernet adapter for networking) This PC also connected
to the internet. I kept the firewall running for the internet connection.

PC#2 Named Sec2
Has ethernet adapter ethernet Realtek RTl8139
Node type: mixed
IP routing enabled: no
Wins proxy enabled: no

I have computer #1 & #2 connected with r54 cable to a hub. I also have a
Belkin WAP connected to the hub. PC#1 can see the WAP but cannot see PC#3.
PC#3 can see the hub but cannot see PC#1. The WAP has an SSID: wlan. I
tried running browstat but didn't get any information. Computer said command
not recognized.

PC#2 and PC#3 with addresses in 169.xxx.xxx.xxx indicates they are not
receiving an address through DHCP - which evidently should be provided by
PC#1 which has the address (192.168.0.1) usually reserved for gateway/DHCP
computer.

The advice given by various people on this newsgroup is excellent - I am
sure you will get more applicable info from others.

I think I found another problem. I was able to run browstat on all three
computers. PC#1 and PC#2 both show themselves as the master brower and PC#3
says the browser is not active in domain, master name cannot be determined
from getadapterstatus. From this I think their all just looking at
themselves and not each other. Any suggestions on how I can fix. I've been
reading through some of the other postings and I'm trying the suggestions out
but any shortcuts would be great.

When you ran the NSW on PC#1, what option did you pick? PC#1 has a fixed ip
address of 192.168.0.1, that is not normal for an ICS host.

Please start by rerunning the NSW on PC#1, and choosing Option #1 "This computer
connects directly to the Internet.".

Then post a complete "ipconfig /all" from all 3 computers - copy and paste,
don't retype by hand.

I reset the ip address for Sec1 to auto. The only reason I has entered the
ipaddress was the WAP kept giving me an error that it couldn't find IP
address 192.168.0.1. Here are the ipconfig/all and browstat status for all 3

RLG,

OK, you've eliminated half of the problems. Now you need to solve a physical
connectivity issue. What is this hub, and how do you know that Sec3 can see it?
Does the WAP show any signs of Sec3 connecting?

I really do appreciate all of your help. I have completed all of the
instructions except cdiag. However thought I'd let you know. Sec1 and Sec2
were communicating fine. Then had to leave for a few hours. When I came
back they now don't see each other again. I've tried rebooting again but no
help. I'll complete the instructions and will give you the results.

The hub I'm sugin has 9 ports and is from 3com and is model Hub 8/tpo,
3c16700. The WAP software programs does show that 1 wireless connection is
seen. When I've checked the connectivity on Sec3 sometimes it shows it's
connected and logged into the WLAN and others it says the connection is too
weak for communication. I've installed the hardware and software per mfgs
instructions so I'm not sure where the problem lies. I thought I might
remove the wireless card and WAP and start over.

Keep trying. You still have at least 2 problems. Besides the Sec3 connectivity
issue, you need to define "Sec1 and Sec2 can't see each other".
