ReadOnly attribute on Windows 2003 Folder

I am using a windows 2003 server. I have just seen that all folders have
the read only attribute ticked. I untick this and click on OK but when I go
back to the folder the read only attribute is grayed and ticked. This is
for all folders.

Is there a way of removing or unticking permanently this attribute from all
windows 2003 folders. Is there any registry hack.

No they don't, the little box is grey, "indeterminate" and is absolutely
no indication of the read or write status of the folder. I't only
purpose is used to Set or Unset read-only on the FILES contained within
the folder. Ignore what it "looks like" because it means nothing. There
is nothing to fix or change, and no reason to.
