Reading CD from Windows 98

write to it. What might that software be? There isn't a Windows XP version
of that same software?

If it was a UDF writer program, you'll need to install a UDF reader program
on Windows that can understand the format you wrote it in.

I can make lots of guess as to what you used to write the CD while under
Windows 98, but I'm not going. I'll only venture that you might've used
either Adaptec/Roxio DirectCD or Ahead Nero InCD. Both provide UDF support
for CD-RW media. Both have versions that run under Windows XP (if you want
all the other functionality, too).
