read receipt conflicts

A guy I work with is getting weird conflict messages. We have Exchange 2003
and he has Outlook 2003. He sporadically gets conflict messages on read
receipts. He has it setup to always request a read receipt. About 3 times a
day or so, he gets a message that shows the yellow diamond with the arrows
pointing at each other. When you open the message, the description is
'Conflicting edits have been made to the same item. To resolve this conflict,
select the item in the list below you wish to keep and then choose "Keep This
Item", or choose "Keep All" to preserve all version.' Keep this item and
keep all are the two options. There are two messages shown. They are
identical. Under 'last edited by' is the user who is getting the error (he
is the one requesting the receipt), under subject is 'Read:<subject of sent
email>', under last edit date is the time the email likely was read (in other
words, the time the read receipt was created). Again, the two messages are
identical.

This guy has a Blackberry and uses the desktop redirector. He is the only
one exhibiting this behavior, so I suspect it has something to do with that.
