is the freeware GhostScript which does a fine job. Yet,
there are ways to make your Acrobat respond more
quickly by doing away with all those useless plug-ins.
And .. you can always search around for an earlier version that didn't do
all that stuff in the first place.

I don't want to create PDFs, I want to read pre-written ones.
Will CutePDF do that? (It's a 4 MB+ download, I'm on 56k).
To increase the speed and reduce the bloat of AR6, make sure the splash
screen is disabled (edit>preferences>starup) and do the what is outlined
here
