Read Only

PaperPort Deluxe 9

Recently, scanning results in PDF files that are READ ONLY. Previously,
scanning resulted in plain old PDF files.

I can't think of any changes I made to the hardware or software that
would have caused the change.

I've looked in PaperPort's Help index, PP's various settings,
Scansoft's Knowledge base (am I the only one who finds it to be
worthless?), etc. So far, I haven't found any means of saving scanned
images in PDF format other than as READ ONLY.

READ ONLY is a PITA. Any solutions?

There are some of the several forms of PDF that are Read-only.
You have to use a form that is editable.

PDF (Normal): can be edited in a pdf editor.
PDF Edited: can be edited, searched, viewed.
PDF with image on text: Viewable only, Read-only.
PDF with image substitutes: similar to PDF (Normal) can be edited, searched,
viewed.
PDF image only: Viewable only, Read-only.

The Visioneer 9450 USB is sending the scanned image to PaperPort 9
Deluxe which is saving the image as a PDF file.

I don't have any other PDF editor.

Until the last couple of weeks, an image processed by PP9 was not saved
as a PDF read only file. Now all of them are. I have looked all over
PP9 and Scansoft's alleged Knowledge for a solution or setting, but I
can't find anything.

Yes, there are several PDF types. The question is how do I get PP9 to
save the image as a normal PDf file.

PaperPort 9 user guide.

Go to Page 34 in the above PDF.

P 34 does NOT explain how to change settings so that I don't have scans
saved in PP 9 Deluxe as READ ONLY.

Are these files on a CD disk? CDR files can only be read- only.

do you have Adobe Acrobat (not the reader version) standard or pro? if
so, try running the paper capture utility...
