Read Only in SHARED DOCUMENTS

My SHARED DOCUMENTS folder is showing as READ ONLY in the property settings.

My wife and I are both administrators on the system, but have separate logins.
We want to be able to share the same files will full privileges.

I try to turn off READ ONLY attribute, and it seems to work, but doesn’t
actually change anything.
(And looking at the properties after making the change, continues to show as
read only)

Any suggestions?

This had been working before my HD crashed---I swear it was.
But after a new installation on a new HD…and no go.

All folders show as Read Only in WinXP. Ignore it.

Quite normal. The read only attribute is ignored by the system on folders,
it only applies to files.

Thanks for the responce.
The problem was that she was unable to modify any of the files in the SHARED
DOCUMENTS folder.

I fixed the problem by changing the SIMPLE FILE SHARING option under
Explorer>Tool>Folder Options>View

This made it so I could easily controll folder access by givning me a
Win2000 administration view--something I am more familiare with.

And to be sure....she didn't have full access to the files. Funny right?

No...something was wrong.

My wife was unable to modify files in the folder ("Shared Documents"),
though she was able to create her own.

I corrected the problem by changing the "SIMPLE FILE SHARING" attribute in
Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>View

This gave me an administrator control more like I would expect from Win2000.
Indeed she did not have FULL CONTROL.

I've corrected this, and everything seems to be working fine now.

Thanks for the resopnce.

Betcha the folder still shows as 'read only'. What you corrected were
permissions, not attributes. The former is the source of the problem, the
latter had nothing to do with it.
