re Windows Vista Home and Adobe PDF files-can't download

T

ok, I have a fairly new computer.....a few months old and somehow recently I
lost the ability to download Adobe pdf files! Uhmm..this is kinda important
to say the least. Anytime I try to download pdf files, I get a popup message
from Windows saying "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or
file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access this item" I
noticed that it is trying to download the pdf files to the following "hidden"
folder: "c:users\sher\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\temporaryinternetfiles
\content.IE5"
Vista is restricting me from changing the attributes from "hidden" to read
only. I don't know what else to do. Also I am the only one that uses this
computer and I believe I have administrator privileges........
I am hoping you guys can help? Please, I don't want to have to call the
Geek Squad!
Thanks much,
Sher

Hi, Sher.

Have you been to the Adobe website recently? They've had some problems in
transitioning to Vista, but maybe they have a later update that will solve
that problem. Are you using the free Adobe Reader, or do you have the full
Adobe Acrobat application?
noticed that it is trying to download the pdf files to the following
"hidden"
folder:
"c:users\sher\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\temporaryinternetfiles
\content.IE5"

That pathname should start "C:\users\sher..." And the Content.IE5 folder
holds your Temporary Internet Files - in other words, your Internet cache.
That folder does not follow the usual rules and you probably should not try
to manipulate it at all.

When you see the popup message, does it offer you an option to save the file
anywhere else?

Uninstall all versions of Adobe (Acrobat) Reader and then either install the
newest version from Adobe or install Foxit:
