Re invoice numbering

Frank, Tammy - I just found this board after searching out the same issue on
the web for days! I had to create a template for invoicing that technicians
can take with them on their pcs. Each tech would have a unique identifier,
ie
first & last initial123. I need the invoices to number sequentially, and
once a tech "saves as" a document the numbering has to remain on the
document, canceling out the sequential numbering which was commanded on the
template so that if the invoice is FL123, it will remain that on that
particular invoice, not become FL124 when it's opened and FL125 the next
time it's accessed and so on. Each invoice one number - sequentially from
the template.. I am thinking that creating a button on the template which
would put in the invoice number would solve the number changing once the
template was saved as an actual invoice problem, but I dont know the formula
for sequential numbering or how to make a button do that. Same issue for
date. Does that make sense and can anyone help? thanks so

I found it! I took the info from this tutorial, then once I had the macro
for automatic numbering, I put a button in the cell and assigned the macro
to it. Removed the original macro and now when you click on the button, the
number advances, but you can save the template as each individual
invoice/.doc and the number will remain. I even got the alpha numeric to
work!
