Re-installing XP on same computer, new hard drive!

I have a Dell computer that was loaded with Windows XP but the 20GB hard
drive failed & I'm installing a brand new Maxtor 200GB hard drive. I have the
original Windows XP Dell install disk but I've heard you can only install
Windows XP once (or actually that it will re-install but only work for 30
days before locking up.)
Am I required to re-purchase Windows XP to get this computer running again
even though Windows XP was original purchased as the operating system for
this computer or is there some sort of special re-install code Microsoft can
issue to get the Windows XP Dell install disk to re-install & continue
running?
Any help?

Reinstall.
You should be fine.

No you can install as many times as you have the patience to do so.
The EULA states the use is restricted to one (single) PC but there
aren't any limitations on installing. However, if you do install several
times in a short period the Internet based Activation may fail and
require you to call and get Activated by phone.

Fortunately, you've heard wrong. You can reinstall it (on the same computer)
as often as you need (or want) to.

I have had a problem with my Dell Laptop, I tried to download Virus
Protection from AOL, but instead lost all connection to my OS.

What is that all about? Can I re-install in this matter as well?

Pam, you shouldn't post onto someone else's thread. It's called
hijacking. Better is to post a new thread with your issue. That said
with respect to your question, you can reinstall on the same system as
many times as you want. But is that what you are asking, or are you
asking if a reinstall will fix your problem? Your post is unclear -
what do you mean by "lost all connection to my OS"? Was the system
infected and that's why you were trying to download AV protection? It
would be best if you post a new message including all relevant info on
your problem. See this link for info on making a good newsgroup post.
