Re-Installing Internet Explorer

P

Paul Maskell

Hello,

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to re-install Internet Explorer over itself?
The reason being, is because the SEARCH panel is regularly opening up by itself.
This is getting very annoying when your trying to read a web page.

Would re-installing IE cure this problem, or would it cause me unforseen problems
concerning other programs?

Thanks.

I doubt if you need to re-install IE. You probably are infected with some
malware.

Method 2 in this article works on earlier versions of Windows.

Make sure your anti-virus is turned off.

But for what is probably your problem, See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to

Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.

Hi,
The method you would use to repair/reinstall IE depends on the OS. Before
going that route you should check for malware.
Start with BHODemon (safe and easy)
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm
Then run CWShredder and Ad-aware SE.
See: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
