"When I added them, they
| all had to have the drivers installed BEFORE the
hardware."
If you do a clean install with the hardware installed, the
XP installer will either crash or install the wrong drivers
for the unidentified hardware. Then you'll spend hours
(days) getting it straight.
Install XP with just the required hardware needed to get
on-line (modem and/or NIC). No third party PCI cards
otherwise, no printers, scanners or cameras.
Your graphics card is OK IF it is on the list of supported
XP hardware, but you still might need to update the driver.
| Just some advice please-
| My computer now has a full compliment of add-in cards,
USB2/Firewire, SCSI
| for film scanner,
| WiFi, Sound, Graphics.
| I am thinking of re-installing XP from scratch so as to
(hopefully) remove
| some irritations which (I think) are the result of trying
/ removing quite a
| few programs plus the result of many hours exploring the
Web.
|
| My question at last - Should I remove the cards that I
added, before
| reinstalling XP, then re-install them afterwards? When I
added them, they
| all had to have the drivers installed BEFORE the hardware.
|
| Your experience??
|
| TIA
