Re-Install XP, 2 XP selects show up on boot

I formatted the Hard drive on my laptop, getting rid of
the corrupt Windows XP (home). I re-installed XP (home)
from the Install disk, all goes well. Re-Boot the system
and the screen pops up with a choice select of 1-Windows
XP Home or 2-Windows XP Home. A countdown timer is running.
#1 XP runs my installed. #2 XP fails to boot. How can I
get rid of this dialog. I thought the newly formatted disk
would erase all existance of the old XP?

Thanks,
Tony

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths"
to delete incorrect boot paths.

If the above does not work for you, then:

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:

Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit

CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the erroneous entries.
Your boot.ini file should then look similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
