re-install win 2k pro

Oscar

Dear all,

I try to re-install win 2k pro on my laptop, but when I
start the computer, it boots from my harddrive.
I changed the bootsequence in BIOS setup, defining the cd-
rom drive as the first place to boot, but it still boots
from the hard-drive.

How can I fix this problem?
Thanks in advance,

Oscar

Watch the screen carefully when you boot. Do you get
the "Hit any key to boot from CD" prompt? It only stays
on the screen for a few seconds.

Also be sure the CD in the drive is actually bootable.

If all that fails, use the four Boot Diskettes you made (didn't you?) when
you originally installed Windows (unless you are under the Curse of the Boot
Diskless OEM). Set your BIOS to boot as follows:

1. CD
2. Diskette
3. Hard drive (IDE0)

If Windows is still usable, you can still make the boot diskettes and use
them.

Pop in both the bootable Win 2K CD and the first of the four boot diskettes
and see what happens.

Don't give up. There are other options.

Hi Oscar,

Most modern MoBo will still boot from the HDD, if you change all the boot
devices. I actually have mine set that way, and if I want to boot with the
boot provision, I place the OS CD in and reboot. When the box starts to
POST, I start tapping the spacebar (can be any key on mine) and it starts
with the CD and begins to load the files contained on the Boot Diskettes,
but it is much faster than using the Boot Floppies.

Try it, and see if you get those results.
Also this may help.
