Right-click on your desktop and select:

Properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web (tab)
and uncheck "Lock Desktop Items", click OK and APPLY.

Also, check this setting:

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:
Properties > Advanced > Performance settings >
Visual Effects, place a check next to "Use Drop Shadows
for Icon Labels on the Desktop", then click "apply".

| When I first installed windows XP, the icon names on the
| desktop had translucent backgrounds so it looked as if
| the words were floating on the desktop. I changed the
| desktop background and the icons now have color behind
| the words. How do I set it back to the translucent
| look. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

| Thank you.
