Re-formating error

I need suggestions-

I want to re format my drive removing Vista and using my XP disc. I am
getting an error message telling me that there has been a stop? I have never
had an issue doing this so I am utterly stuck on how to proceed. The mesage
tells me to disable BIOS memory and options such as caching or shadowing.
Then it lists several tech info stop codes such as- STOP 0x0000007e and so on

Any ideas on how to get past this and re-format with XP???

THANKS

It is really hard to tell what you are doing, how you are doing it with the
description you gave. Do you have 1 drive with one partition? Are you
trying to format using Recovery Console? Are you in the install phase? No
mind readers here. Be specific about what you are doing, what your setup is
and what you are using.

I did a fresh install of Vista, one drive one partition. I want to re format
my hard drive and reload XP instead of Vista.
I am booting off of my XP CD, and getting a stop error 1-2 minutes into the
install of my OS.
So Vista is almost dis allowing me to re format my HD. I am about ready to
install a new clean HD and start over

Hi,

At the point where you choose the installation location, choose instead to
delete the existing system partition. Then create a new one from the
resulting free space. Format it ("quick" is fine here), and proceed with
setup.
