Re-color PPT slide design

I used the PPT City Stairs design template but re-colored by covering with a
transparent blue "box" and replaced buildings by covering with my company
photos. How can I make it a permanent design template for internal use
without all the added memory? In other words, is there a way to truly recolor
a background design?

Taking a quick look at City Stairs...I believe they've used a picture fill
as a background.

If I were you and had already created the look I want, I'd create a blank
slide and use File | Save As and choose PNG to create an image of the
background.

Then open a new blank presentation and go to View | Slide Master. Click the
top thumbnail -- the big one -- that's the slide master. Right-click and
choose Format Background. On the Fill tab, choose Picture or Texture Fill,
hit the File button and navigate to the background image you selected.

Then choose a color scheme for your file and a font scheme and format the
placeholders as you want them. Then View | Normal and save the file as a
template (or even as a theme if you want).

You can do this on the existing template to replace the existing background
image also.
