RE : CD Burning in Xp Problem

Try using the applications that come built-in with XP.
You can capture video and audio to your computer by using Windows Movie
Maker.
To begin capturing, a video capture device must be connected properly and
detected on your computer by Windows Movie Maker. Some audio and video
capture devices and sources that you can use include a digital video (DV) or
analogue camera or VCR, a Web camera, a TV tuner card, or a microphone. You
can capture content live or from video tape.
When capturing video and audio in Windows Movie Maker, the Video Capture
Wizard proceeds as follows:

1.. Select the capture devices you want to use.
2.. Specify where you want your captured audio and video file to be saved.
3.. Choose the video setting. For more information about choosing a video
setting for capturing video and audio.
4.. If you are capturing audio and video from a video tape in a DV camera
or DV VCR, choose the method you want to use to capture video and audio.
5.. Capture the video and audio. .
The Save Movie Wizard lets you quickly save your project as a final movie.
The timing, layout, and contents of the project are saved as one complete
movie. You can save and store the movie on your computer or on a recordable
CD, or you can send it as an attachment in an e-mail message or to a video
hosting provider on the Web. In addition to these choices, you can choose to
record your movie to a tape in a DV camera.

Now why go through the bother of using 3rd party stuff and filling up your
hard drive and adding to the burden of System Registry?

If this works get rid of your Sony software and the Nero Software

Good luck

I have a Nero cd burning software installed on my XP Pro. I just purchased a
Sony handycam, installed the software (Image mixer ver. 1.5 for Sony)that
comes together with the bundle.

And here goes the problem... Whenever I tried using the Sony program to
transfer the captured tape to the CD..Image mixer cannot recognize my CD
burner for some reason, normally when the CD burning window prompt me to
choose the writer...I could just choose the drive letter where my cd burning
rom located.(that's what happened when I tried using the my friends PC with
win 2k pro OS, and with a nero burning rom software installed too)

I already tried uninstalling the NEro software thinking that it causes a
conflict but still got the same problem, grrrrrrrrrrr...sony image mixer
cannot recognize my cd writer.

Anyone knows how to solve the problem? Please help me. I cant wait to burn
the film clips that I captured...

Specs:
HP Pavillion PC
Athlon Xp 2800
512 RAM
CD Rom --- JVC
CD Writer --- Samsung DVD writer combo

Thanks in advance,

I'll agree with you halfway. While installing third-party
software does add stuff to the registry, there are some
things in Windows that are either limited ar just plain
crap, like the built in CD-burning capabilities.

If you want to do any type of video editing, Movie Maker
will do the basics, but that's about it. Another thing is
that you're limited to saving the videos as .wmv format.
I used to use it to make simple music videos and such,
but to get decent quality (please not decent, not good) a
4 minute clip took up 80 megs. With third party software
you can get much better quality for less space.

I've never been all too keen on installing any software
that comes with a camera or the like. With my digital
camera, I have an SD reader built into my laptop, and I'm
just going to get a reader for my desktop. It's less
hassle, less cables, and lees junk on your computer and
under your desk (if that's where you keep your comp...).

Hope this helps,

Try Using Ulead Video Studio. aNd dump Sony Image Mixer.
Nero Burn Rom does have an option to burn VCD image files
once they are created. Video Studio is one good application
for the editing.mixing of video files. Get a trial at

Hi Brian,

Thank you very much for that very detailed tips that you gave.

But unfortunately after trying to use the Windows movie maker2 program ..
Its the same problem that I have here ...when it comes to the part that I
need to save to CD my finished movie/video .It always say's " no cd-writing
device detected on this system" grrrrrr cant believe that ...

So I checked whether the device was known to the system by looking at the
device manager.. cd /dvd rom .....and there it shows that my CD writer was
known to the system and not to mention that it is also
showing on my bios setting.
CD writer works fine when I am using the bundled software(nero burning rom)
... i can copy CD,back up my file without any prob.

Whew.. Im at lost now ...anyone knows how to figure it out to shake the
problem...
Hope to hear more advise support from you guys..

Thanks again
