Re "0x011f4cc0" error message

I am using Windows Xp with the SP2 pack. When closing down recently the
above error message appears. I have not been quick enough to get the rest of
the message before it disappears. When I reboot the computer I have a blank
screen for a minute or two, then a black and white screen appears with some
message that I have to press either F1 or F2. I press F1 then the computer
boots up. The only problem I seem to have is that I have to reset the time,
date and year again. Can any body assist me with this please????

Have you looked at the Warning and Error Reports in the System and
Application logs in Event Viewer?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hi Gerry, I'm sorry about the delay in replying to you. I am a bit of a
learner at this computer business. I did what you told me and accessed the
Event viewer, but it confused me about researching the meaning of the error,
etc. Also I have never copied and pasted before. Could it be simply that
the battery on the motherboard needs replacing? My PC is 5 1/2 years old
now. It is a Packard Bell Imedia 5106, with it's original Discovery
motherboard. As I have stated when I boot up the only problem I have is with
the time, date and year to be reset. Everything else is working OK. Do you
know what type of battery I will need. Thanking you for your time and
patience, in anticipation, Hockerby.

I think your machine is a Desktop so the only battery I would expect is
a tiny one located on the motherboard:

However the details are not clear to me in the documentation I located
for your model.

I have never had to relace a battery but a failing battery will evidence
itself by the system clock losing time.

Where did you buy the original machine from? I would ask them. Within a
serial number you may be able to get details of the battery from the web
site above. I am not sure whether you are located in the US or
elsewhere.
