RC2 Help

My friend gave me his Vista 64-bit RC2 DVD so I can upgrade to it from my
Vista RC1 32-bit. My prossesor can use 64-bit (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+) but I
accidentally installed 32-bit on RC1 a while ago. When ever I put the DVD in
it says "Setup can not run on this version of the the Operating System. To
install Windows please try booting from the install media." So I booted from
the DVD and it wouldnt let me upgrade, just a clean install. It says if I
want to upgrade and keep my files I have to start the upgrade after my system
allready booted. But it wont let me do that. so if I want to keep my files do
I have to stick with RC1? or is there any way where I can keep my files and
upgrade to RC2 64-bit? Or is there a way where I can do a system recovery or
something after I install RC2 to get my files back and have RC2 insted of RC1?

You, obviously, shouldn't be beta testing if you have to ask such
elementary questions. Wait until Vista is at SP2 and, in the meantime,
learn what "back up" means and clean install XP. I can't believe that MS
made these betas available to the general public. It really shows how
little they care about their paying customers. This total disregard for
paying customers WILL be their END. As Abraham Lincoln said, "You can
fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of
the time but you can't fool all the people all of the time."

going from 32 to 64 bit is a no-go. Not possible. Only clean install.
Sorry...

Hey,

If you want to upgrade to RC2 64bit, you will need to do a clean
installation. on transferring the files before the clean installation,
please use Windows Easy Transfer in your current RC1 to backup the
files/settings to a removable drive before the upgrade.

DVD also. which do you think I should install (I mainly use my comp for
gaming) the 32-bit or 64-bit?

No.

you have no friends.
False.

You speak for everyone? My advice to you still stands. You have no
business beta testing, especially on a machine that has files you don't
want to lose. But, hey, ignore my advice and suffer the consequences.
It's your life but you shouldn't take it so seriously and get offended

Alias,
I second the opinion that you are an a--hole!
Your petty, snobbish, rude and self-centered opinions are of no use to anyone.
If you can't give helpful, constructive advice, why not keep your scum to
yourself?
The man obviously had a legitimate question.
If you can't be objective, SHUT THE **** UP!!!!

Hey again,

Personally, I would go for 32-bit. I installed 64bit just to find out that
there's many devices that I have dont have the 64bit driver.

Furthermore, the applications will need to be writtin to support 64 bit.
Otherwise you will not be getting any advantage over a 64bit machine. And if
you are not planning to install >4GB of RAM, then just use the 32bit vista.

I am running a 32bit vista on both my laptop and desktop even though both
desktop and laptop supports 64bit. ;)

Get yourself something like an Iomega USB external harddrive - works great -
you should have one anyway - with which you can transfer / backup all files
to it. You can also run the Windows Easy Transfer and store the results on
it.

Then do a "clean" install of Windows Vista RC2 64-bit. Restore files from
the Iomega and / or run Windows Easy Transfer.
