RC1 5600 Going Better Than 5384 But Windows Update Fails

Version 5600, the DVD being received Saturday, proved pleasantly much
"smoother" and faster than the earlier Beta (5384) I tried out.

So far, the only hiccup has been the repeated failure of Windows Update. I
get Error "Windows Update_80070002" and I did as suggested in Help and
Support but that did not work. A feedback error report has already been
submitted.

I turned off the service since then in order to explore other aspects of
this gigantic piece of eye candy better.

Somehow I feel, but cannot explain why, that MS will probably never come up
with a more functional and stable OS than Windows XP Professional 64 Bit
Edition. Too bad many device manufacturers never developed 64 bit drivers
for this version of Windows.

I am having quite a mental block in understanding is why the OS has to be so
big!

My installation so far is about 6.5 GB! Hibernation and System restore are
turned off and the 1 GB pagefile is on a totally separate drive. The only
software installed so far are Acronis TrueImage 8, Adobe Reader 7.08,
RealPlayer Enterprise, Crap Cleaner, SpyBot 1.4, Firefox 1.5.0.7, AVG Anti
Virus Free Edition - that's most all of it.

Does Acronis True Image version 8 work? I thought it didn't.

Works perfectly here - however, image creation within Windows has to be
scheduled as a task and cannot be started "directly".

Interesting you ask this - I could not use TrueImage 8 on 5384 but TrueImage
Server 8 (which I also have) worked fine. Again, then, live image creation
would only work as a scheduled task.
