Raptors are going though the roof!

25869 with ~5% fragmentation (Raptor on SiI3112A) oh, and NTFS5

I run NTFS as well. That accounts for some of the SATA RAID with 8MB cache
being so much faster than my score. I imagine those benchmarks are done
using the faster FAT32. Do a thorough defrag, turn on DMA, and rerun your
test. I'm interested in knowing what your score is...
I can believe that... I can sustain reads of 50MB/s and writes at 45MB/s

I would expect that to have been tested on the ICH5R.

I'm not sure how the 2 drive Raptor score was gotten. The 4 drive obviously
was from a dedicated controller. Anyone know how the ICH5R scores compared
to a dedicated controller in a 2 drive RAID 0 setup?

My only hangup about the Raptor is the drive size. 36MB drives won't do me.
I have 40GB drives now and I'm feeling more than a little confined. I had
to remove some games from my system to get some space back. I have 35GB
available now, but I did have less than 25GB before. Yeah, that's still a
lot of space, but when you defrag and you see more colored bars than
whitespace, you tend to get clausterphobic...

Just done Sandra 2004
P4P800D with 2 Raptors in RAID0 63081 8.8ms 4.8% CPU.

Did have VIA VIA Raid0 Twin 40GB Maxtors (2MB Cache) 32466 again with a
very low CPU.

Single 40GB Maxtors (2MB Cache) on IDE 24237

I just wish the Raptors had larger sizes. I'd love to have them if I could
get them in at least 72GB sizes.

My RAID is the same as your second one, only with a Promise onboard
controller (xx276?). Your score will bounce around a bit. My scores went
from lows of the upper 34,000's to my 40,000+ score. The last score was
achieved only at after a very thorough defrag using Diskeeper. The defrag
was so thorough, I had to reboot to defrag the MBR and everything.

<snip>

74Gb Raptors are meant to be available around now, but I have not aware of
any UK shops which have them in stock. Indicated price looks more than 2x
the 36Gb.

Mode is UDMA6. Fragmentation reading at 1%. New score is 30389.

My bad... I didn't see that you said 4 drive setup, not the ICH5R, then :)

With both using 2 drives I would expect pretty similar scores.

Clusterphobic? :p

Yeah, I know what you mean. I had the same thought, but I figured the best
choice would be a 2 drive setup, one thats fast and one thats large. Yet to
buy the large drive, but no doubt it will be a WD SATA.

Not necessarily... I remember a few years back where there were comparisons
between HighPoint and Promise controllers. Seemed that the Promise
controllers with the same drives, stripe size, and everything were clearly
faster. However, the HighPoint controllers allowed complete access to
stripe size and allowed the use of 4 drives in the array as well.
