Random Shutdowns, unable to reboot for 12 boots after

Recently a Win2000 Pro machine I have randomly started shutting down, when I try to reboot the shutdown window will appear and the machine will shutdown. It takes many (10 - 15) reboots before it will go to the desktop and work for who knows how long. The logs show a messed up dll for ATI Hotkey Poller Event ID 105, and it also displays Event ID 3 NT Authority\System service has started.

Sounds like the classic "bad cap" syndrome. Open the case and with a good
flashlight carefully inspect the capacitors on the motherboard. Pay
particular attention to those surrounding the CPU. You're looking for
swollen/bulging/leaking capacitors. If you see any sign of bad capacitors,
then you need to replace your motherboard.
