Random Restarts-Bad RAM?-PLEASE HELP!

Hello, I have a brand new Sony Vaio P4 (hyper threading) 3.2 gig pc, with 250
gigs of HD space, and 1 gig of RAM (2x 256 dimms [Samsung, I belive] and 1x
512 dimm [K-Byte]). All the RAM chips are the same speed (pc-3200). This is
the seconf Vaio pc that I have gone through in a total of 2 months (turns out
there was really nothing wrong with the first one, but Sont tech support told
me to exchange it...) any way, When I first POWERED UP PC # 1, as soon as I
started using applications, I got a blue screan of Death Error. That was the
only blue screen error that I recived on that pc, but a did get several error
messages that read somthing like..."memory has referenced at .......the
memory could not be 'read' ".
I talked to Sony tech support and they told me that it seemed like a memory
issue. (Even though the computer was reading 1 gig of RAM, and nothing wrong
showed up in the device manager). At this point that PC was exchanged for a
second Vaio (same exact model) for other reasons. When I exchanged pc #1 for
pc#2, the additional 512 chip of RAM (K-Byte) was installed on the new pc
(pc#2). The RAM again showed 1 gig, and nothing wrong showed up in the device
manager.
I continued to get the error messages that read"memory referenced
at....memory could not be 'read' " on pc # 2, but I didn't think much of it.
About 3 weeks ago, I installed NERO, Ultra 6 edition on my pc, certain
features of the program worked and others didn't (Mainly Vision Express
2-don;t know if anyone elese has had a problem with this program)I constantly
got error messages that said "The program has encountered an error andf needs
to shut down". I tried 2 reinstalls of the program, and downloaded all of the
updates, I finally completely uninstalled the program. I meanwhile was
noticing my computer starting to randomly restart out of the blue. When my
computer resrted and I logged back on, it gave me an error message that said
"system has recovered from a serious error" I did a system restore to before
the Nero prgram was installed and still I am having random system restarts
(as many as 2 a night one time). Here are some of my error message logs:

System Error-
category: (102)
event ID: (1003)
error code: 0000001a, parameter1, 00000777, parameter2 00000000, parameter3
000000001, parameter4 1fffffff

I have got quite a few of these errors, when I visit the support site, the
type of error is labeled as this ER_KRNLCRASH_LOG
The "technical data" on the error messages usually tells me there is
something in the minidump folder or the Locals/Temp folder.

I really think this has something to do with bad RAM, but if the RAM is bad,
would it still show up as 1 gig (remember i have 2x 256mb Samsung Chips and
ix 512mb K-Byte Chip).

Thank You very much for your help, I know this article is long, but your
help would be greatly appriciated....Jeff

Did you buy the Ram,I bought Ram I thought was The same
speed and type, turned out the nice young kids at Best Buy
had sliced a small slit in the side of the pack and
exchanged it for cheaper 2100.It read 1 Gig but the
offset of Ram 2100+3200 caused me all kind of
problems.Blue screen,unable to use applications.I found
out by going to the BIOS,and in there it shows each bank
of Ram,look at the speed of each,it may be slowing it
down to 2100 from 3200 causing your problem.I went back
to Best Buy very angry and wanted my money back! The
manager checked the Ram on the shelf, all but one was
switched,5 more cases,2100 in 3200 boxes.Most people
won't know the difference, but if you have a funny box,it
will have problems, check the speed in your BIOS and check
it out.

Thanks for your reply Burt...Yeah I know Best Buy rots, and yet I still keep
going back...go figure...when i took the 1st computer back to exchange it,
the tech that installed the RAM on the 2nd computer noticed that it had a
sticker on it that said PC400, but it had another, more present sticker that
said pc3200. The packagine that this RAM came in didn't look damaged, but it
said, pc2700-pc3200...whatever that means. If I happen to have a bad RAM
chip, whip it still show up under system properties as having 1 gbm of RAM???
Thanz agian for your help.

Once again, thanx for all of your help.....
I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic Program:
-It showed that there were 32 errors, but it could not tell which modules
were associated with the errors. It could see that
BANK0
DIMM0
256mb SDRAM DIMM

BANK1
DIMM1
512mb SDRAM DIMM

BANK2
DIMM2
256mb SDRAM DIMM

......Hope this helps...Thanx

Try taking all but the 512 out,Put this one in bank0(the
first slot)and do the test on it,then put a 256 in,do the
test, then put the third in and do the test, you may need
that 512 in the first bank(slot 0).Running
256,512,256,could be a problem,shouldn't,but never
know.GoodLuck!
