Random Reboots

Hi,

I hope someone can help.

I recently built a new PC. Randomly the PC reboots, sometimes with a BSOD
sometimes not.

I do notice that it seems to start by me getting a VS just in time debugger
message with a win32 exception.

I have built numerus PCs in the past but this one has be baffled. I have
tried single ram chips (or 2) running memory check etc.

The event viewer seems not to provide any info (or maybe I have no idea what
I am looking for)

Many thanks
Stu

This symptom seems to fall under two categories, primarily: Hardware -
overheating or software - usually a virus. Does your motherboard or
video card fan whir noticeably about the same time this happens? Feel
the back of your machine and see if it seems hotter than it should. If
you're satisfied that that is okay, then start checking for some kind
of malware. Also, have you installed any software just before this
started happening.

Sorry if I'm being vague, but random reboots can be a very hard
problem to troubleshoot. Good luck.

Hi Andy,

The machine just hangs momentarily before it reboots. I didn't think of
Virus - I just assumed Hardware, I'll do a full system scan.
The CPU temp is 18oC the case reports 37oC...does this seem within
acceptable params?

I haven't noticed my Video card fan spin up fast before the reboot either.

Some other odd things which may help. When I first startup my machine, the
bios reports no keyboard, but continues to load and windows works fine with
the keyb. Similarly, when the machine first boots my wireless network card
doesn't work until I restart (states the driver isn't installed)

Thanks for your help, I appriciate random reboots could be anything, just
trying to fid out how I get info to people who can help like yourself.

Cheers
Stu

Go back and make sure have no 'cold solder joints' . They can cause wierd
things.

sounds like driver problem ( for kb, wireless NIC) or the keyboard
connection problem.

try system info and see if any device conflicts
start menu, accessories, system, system info

To reduce the possibilities,
try a plain ps2 kb if possible
also with power off, reseat the NIC if not built-in

last possibility not least, have the nic card removed. and boot
