Random Reboot

I recently bought a new gateway computer GM5072 4200+ Athon computer. I've
just started to experience random reboots. These reboots just started
happening after the latest MS update push. The computer has worked fine for
the first 4 weeks. Gateway wants me to do a reformat to determine whether the
problem is the harddrive or motherboard or a software issue. As you can guess
I would prefer NOT to go through the "restore to factory" process if I don't
have to, especially as I believe it is related to the lastest MS push.

Help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. - Before buying the gateway I had purchased an HP - twice - each one
out of the box had a hardware issue so I switched to a gateway - now
this..... help please.

Hi

Try this to see what the problem may be:

Right click on My Computer, select Properties and then the Advanced tab.
Click on Settings under Startup and Recovery and disable 'Automatically
restart'. Next time your PC reboots, you should see a Blue Screen. Could
you please post the Stop Code that accompanies that BSOD back here? With
that your problem could be isolated.

Hi,

If they just started after installing an update, uninstall them. Control
Panel/Add & Remove, enable the checkbox at the top to show updates and
remove recently installed ones.

Otherwise, uncheck the box to automatically restart on system failure in the
Control Panel/System/Advanced tab/Startup and Recovery Settings. This will
not fix the problem, but it will cause the system to produce a blue screen
error message next time it does. The details of that message may help point
out what is wrong.
