How do you define "Any serious user"?
Convenient for you how you use this vague term.

Why is it necessary to have the memory now that MAY be needed in the
future "for future developments over the life of the computer"
What is wrong with waiting until the need is nearer rather than
spending now only to possibly replace the computer before the actual
need arises?

"ignorant and stupid person"
Interesting your need to stereotype those with a different opinion
than yours.

As is obvious by other posts less than 2 GB is sufficient for some.

One size fits all is usually wrong since it ignores the requirements
of many.
Your post clearly fits.

Any serious user should realize he needs TWO GB of RAM in order to run VISTA
and have room for future developments over the life of the computer.

Only a rather ignorant and stupid person would buy a box with less than TWO
GB of RAM and expect to use VISTA on it over the next three years.

If one only has two RAM slots and they are filled with 512 MB RAM modules it
is going to mean they will be discarded in order to go to 2 GB or 4 GB of
RAM in the future, as requirements increase and limitations bind.

It's rather shameful how some of the more knowledgeable people here are
buying TWO Gigs of RAM for THEMSELVES -- while recommending ONE Gig as
sufficient for the needs of other allegedly "less sophisticated" users with
"fewer needs" who "only surf the Web and read/send emails."

Hilarious!

In fact it is a disingenuous, duplicitous scam on their part.

I personally plan to have FOUR Gigs of RAM, at a minimum -- when/if I buy
VIENNA.

'Nuff Said.

Nobody listens to a troll which is all you are. I prefer to totally
ignore the drivel you post since you have demonstrated over and over
you don't have a clue. Enough said.
