Ram compatibility ?

Hi

I have an ASUS A7S8X-MX 1 xx motherboard with following settings:
Bus clock: 166 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies
Revision: 1005 11/02/2004.
2 x memory slots
Running XP sp2

I believe it has a maximum of holding 2gb capabilities.
I was lead to believe that DDR 333 Mhz 184PIN 1 GB G GO DIMM is compatible (double sided chips)

I inserted this memory and received an intermittent bleep lasting 3 or 4 seconds where the card got very hot - PC would not start up, then I quickly turned it off.

I re-inserted my old 512mb memory to no problems

Can anyone help me to confirm that it is a compatibility problem.

[URL="http://www.Crucial.com"]www.Crucial.com[/url] have an online application that scans your computer for details it requires and checks what RAM your motherboard supports and things like that.
Run that application and see if the optional Memory Cards that the website suggests match the one you have.

Not as easy as you would think. I made the mistake of buying "high density" (did not know at the time) which was something I overlooked, or it did not seem to be apparent. Mine is Low density. For those interested, please be aware that ALL might seem rosey with your selection of RAM memory, but remember that High or Low density issues maybe apparent.
