Radeon 9600XT/Win2K Resets to 640x480 After Reboot

Carl

Everytime I reboot my Windows 2000 Pro PC which runs on an ASUS P4P800
Deluxe w/ Intel P4-3GHz and Radeon 9600XT (Catalyst 4.1) it boots in 640 x
480 @ 60Hz!

I've tried setting my desired resolution to 1280 x 1024 @ 90Hz (amongst
others) which works fine on my Compaq P910 monitor within Windows but as
soon as I reboot - it's back to 640 x 480 - arghhh!

I've reverted back to Catalyst 3.10 (after un-installing 4.1) and the issue
remains.

Apart from this minor irritation, the card is awesome and leaps ahead of my
old Radeon 7200 in terms of performance.

Any help to remove this (only known) issue much appreciated.

Cheers,

Carl

I had a friend who said his did that when he installed Yahoo Messenger, and
was fine again if he uninstalled it. I realise this is absolutely no use to
you if you don't use Yahoo messenger, in which case ignore me.

I've had the same problem with my XT. Install Rage3D Tweak. Simply
installing it solves it. I didn't believe it when I read that solution, but
tried it anyway, and it works.

Dirk,

OK, I'll give anything a try to resolve this. It's such a stupid litte
issue, but boy is it F R U S T R A T I N G to have to change resolution
every time I reboot Windows!

One question. Where do I get this Rage3D Tweak?

Cheers,

Carl

Rojo,

Thanks for the suggestion, however I don't have Yahoo! Messenger installed.

Dirk,

I found and installed the Rage3D tweak. Unfortunately, it didn't resolve the
problem.

Any more ideas before I de-install the driver and start from an older
version and work back up (if the older version works that is)?

Carl,

Did you ever figure out a fix for this? It's making me nuts too. I've
tried everything, uninstalling manually, using the ATI uninstaller.
Installing drivers in safe mode. Nothing fixes it.

Arghh.
Thanks,
Ken

I just caught the tail end of this thread, but have you by chance
installed the VIA 4-in-1 drivers version 4.50? A few guys on the Rage
3D forum were having the exact problem you describe after the
installation of the 4.50 drivers. The drivers set was pulled by VIA a
few days after their release.

Thanks for that advice. Unfortunately, my MoBo is an Asus P4P800 Deluxe and
doesn't use the VIA chipset or 4-in-1 driver.

Couple of other points (and again, ignore me if you've already checked
this):

1) If you go into the advanced display properties, it the card correctly
identified on the Adapter tab?

2) Intel chipsets also use a GART driver. Go to
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Support_Intel.asp and follow the
menu sytem for your chipset. The file you're looking for is the Inf Update
Utility. This should install the latest chipset drivers for your board.
You can probably also get this file from the Asus website.

Just a stab in the dark, but worth a try.
