Radeon 9500 Pro Fastwrites???... Pros? Cons?

MarkOpolis

Hello everyone,

I have hard times trying to get my system stable. I increased DDR voltage by
+0.1V, thus getting a little more stability, but I stil experience random
freezes, crashes, and reboots.

Sometimes the system hangs, windows repair a faulty device, and set display
to 640*480 4bit color. It might be Radeon's fault!

Should I enable or disable fastwrites? What are the pros? the cons? Will it
prevent me from playing OpenGL games, or else? Will it decrease performance?

Thanx in advance for your help...

M.

My system is as follows:

Gigabyte GA-8IK100 (i875P) - F6 BIOS default fail-safe settings

Antec SLK2600AMB enclosure - 300W SmartPower ATX12V
LiteOn LTR52246S CDRW - IDE 1
Ricoh MP 9060A Combo DVD-CDRW - IDE 0
MS Internet Keyboard - PS2 port
Logitech Wheelmouse optical - USB port
Thomson-Alcatel Speedtouch 330 ADSL modem - USB port

How about just give it a go and see.
Then you tell us.

I can tell you that nothing is going to break if you try it.

Enable - Assign IRQ for VGA
Enable - AGP master 1 WS write
Enable - AGP master 1 WS read
Enable - SDRAM Bank Interleave at 4/Way

Disable - Fast writes
Disable - System BIOS cacheable
Disable - Do not install the ATi 'Control Panel'

For the OpenGL part of your question ................

GoTo: http://www.omegacorner.com/

-click on ATi Radeon
-click on My ATi Radeon Help Page
-read "PROBLEMS WITH XP REFRESH RATES "

Cause=Microsoft
Cure=omegacorner.com/ati.htm
Tip=do NOT install control Panel

-cut-'n-paste-"quote"

"3- In Windows 2k/XP, ALWAYS disable DDC in the ATI "Displays/Monitor"
CP after installing drivers to be able to use ALL the refresh rates and
resolutions"

Hope this helps!

For the best stability to VGA Ati 9500 pro needs a power suply minimun of
300 to 350 W.
I have a PC with similar acracteristics. i has problems of
stability,hangs.... and I have changed the power suply to 380W.
Now,the stability of the system is perfect.
