Radeon 9200se 128Mb & XP (SP2)

Hi all,

Does anyone know of any compatability problems Radeon 9200 SE 128Mb graphics
cards and Windows XP (SP2)?

I ask because I'm having no end of trouble trying to run any game on my PC
since buying both of the above mentioned items. I had to buy a new hard
drive & graphics card because my previous ones had given up on me. So due
to being on a tight budget I opted for a Saphire Radeon 9200 SE 128Mb
because it seemed like a bit of a bargain and my current PC spec met the
recommended requirements.

But whenever I try to run Tiger Woods 2004, for example, I'm lucky if I can
get through the menu screens before my screen goes black and my monitor goes
into standby mode. It seems my attempts at upgrading on a budget hasn't
worked and it is pissing me off tremendously!

Any ideas out there?

Thanks in advance,

Gregg.

It might be the refresh rate settings might be too high
for the resolution and monitor to support. Some newer
vid cards have optons for this at each resolution. You
might check it.

It's possible when you installed the card and software that it may
have changed the refresh rate of your monitor. Blacking out of the
screen raster can be caused by several things, but the most common is
over driving (refresh set too high). As soon as the monitor blacks
out it will go into Standby.

Check the specifications for your monitor and compare the current
resolution you're using to the allowable refresh rates. Then go into
the ATI video control panel advanced settings and make sure your
settings are within limits.

If it's not that, (refresh rate) then you may have gotten a defective
card. Some video cards run very warm (the Radeon 9200 chipset is one
that runs warm) and unless they're cooled properly, the card will shut
down. Does your Radeon have a fan? If so, make sure it's spinning
and cooling the chipset\memory area. Good luck on trouble shooting.
