Quicken 2005 Install Fails on Ultimate

I've tried several times to install, but the Installshield program fails
every time. Has anyone got Quicken installed on Vista? Seems like a pretty
important program to support, no?

TIA,
Bill

I guess it's just me...all these problems with Vista and associated (?)
software. When I decide to install ANYTHING, drivers, programs, etc., I
check with the appropriate site for their inputs on Vista! They will usually
tell you Vista or not yet!

from www.quicken.com : "Quicken has not been fully tested on Windows Vista,
therefore, Intuit cannot guarantee Quicken functionality or offer technical
support if you are using Windows Vista. Quicken may or may not work properly
on this operating system. If you are experiencing issues using Quicken on
Windows Vista, install Quicken on a supported operating system and see if
the issue persists."

"We are currently testing to ensure Quicken works properly once Vista is
publicly available. This page will be updated when more information is
available. If you want to be notified when this page is updated, you can

I clean installed installed Q 2006 on Ultimate, but it refused to DL
transactions or updates. The R5 update is compatible and allows updating,
but it won't DL to a newly installed Q 2006. There may be a file that can be
manually DLed via your browser and applied to Quicken.

An upgrade over XP with an up-to-date Quicken works fine in Ultimate.

The upshot is: I doubt you'd get Q 2005 to work properly even if it did
install. You may just want to pick up Quicken 2007, which is purported to be
Vista compatible.

Yes, it is just you ;-)

Actually I was aware of what Intuit posted on their site, but was curious if
there was a workaround. I'm just testing Vista at the moment, trying various
software installs to see what happens. This is all on a test machine so no
harm done.

As it turns out I installed Q2005 by accident (picked up the wrong CD).
Subsequently I installed Q2007 without problem. Of course actually running
it only worked until I tried to open a file -- then it crashed.

I will of course be astounded if there is no fix by official launch date.
You can bet MS Money will run!

Anyway, thanks for the response.

Bill

Re Q2007: Sorry, but while it installs without obvious problem it crashes
when you try to open a file.

Hi Bill,

I got Quicken 2006 Basic to install by using Vista's "Program
Compatibility
Wizard". In fact, I found that Wizard to be quite helpful on other
applications as well.

Hope that helps.

After you have installed it, use Windows Explorer to locate you Quicken
file, and then double click it.
Quicken 2007 should open without any problems and remember the file next
time you open Quicken.

Bill:
I installed Quicken2006 without problems then when trying to open a file
Quicken crashed the same as you noted. I closed Quicken, went to my data
drive where my Quicken files are stored, then double clicked the data file,
Quicken opened with the file that I selected and hasn't crashed again.
