Quick Launch Bar no longer shows after reboot

After removing some spyware from my office system, my quick launch bar
no longer shows after a reboot. The "Show Quick Launch Bar" box has
to be checked each time after a reboot. When the box is checked and
the bar is shown, the icons I placed on the bar previous to the
problem all appear but in a different order than they used to be in.
If anyone has a solution, I'd appreciate a response. Thanks.

Peter,

Line 164. Restore Taskbar to Default Functionality
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Download and apply this VBS. Restart Windows and customize the QL again. See if the settings are retained on next boot. If that does not help, open Registry Editor and navigate to this location:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]

In the right-pane, locate the value named "Userinit" and note down the value data (should be C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe, the correct value)

If you see any other value there, post back with details and change the value data to:

C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe,

(Assuming Windows is installed in C:\ drive)

The initial fix of running the VB script did not work. The registry
change, or the combination of the script and the change did work. The
registry value was "C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater," which I changed
as you advised me to. Thanks for your help and quick response.

You're welcome. In addition, run the spyware cleaners as well.
