Quick Launch and Search Assistant

Annette

For some reason, today my taskbar is different - the Quick
Launch and Search Assistant are now on - when I deselect
these items and then reboot - XP comes back with these
items selected again. How do I turn these features off
permantley?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Annette,

The Search Assistant bar is a malware. Type the command in RUN box.
Regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll

Then, rename C:\Windows\System32\omniband.dll to old_omniband.dll and restart Windows.

Download all the spyware cleaners and run them.

I just wanted to say thank you both, Annette for posting this question [I'm having the same problem] and Ramesh for the help. I have spybot and kept scanning but it wasn't picking this up - I do have Ad-Aware also but haven't installed it yet because I had a major meltdown recently and I'm still restoring my system - at least I was until this little annoyance popped up...
Anyway... thanks to you both!
