Questions about freeCommander

I've used freeCommander (http://www.freecommander.com/index_en.htm) for
several weeks now. I like the program in general, but I have found a
few things that are somewhat troublesome. Most of the settings and
preferences are stored in an ini file, which is nice because i can get
to them more easily, but I can't figure out which commands will control
these troublesome items. I'd like to fix them but I need some help from
people who know more about freeCommander than I do.

I was wondering if any other users of freeCommander have seen these and
been able to fix them. If you've fixed them, please tell me how you did
it.

* When I change a file's name, I have to click somewhere else in one of
the dual panes in order to "seal" the new name onto the file. When I
click, the cursor *always* assumes that the right mouse button is held
down and starts mass-selecting every file with a marquee starting from
the place where I clicked. This "feature" is a real pain because you
can select whole directories and subdirectories full of files without
realizing it, you think that you've only selected the one single file
that you want, and then you press Enter or Delete and all hell breaks
loose.

* How can I make freeCommander recognize and obey the Refresh command?
The F5 button in freeCommander is copy/paste, and the "Refresh" button
on the button bar rarely forces the screen to actually refresh. I
recently downloaded a freeware calculator from
http://www.karenware.com/powertools.asp, and freeCommander refused to
display it in the pane after pressing the Refresh button several times
and reopening the pane. I had to use Windows Explorer to verify that
the download was actually there and do something with it. The whole
point was to *stop* using Windows Explorer...

* Whenever I switch the pane-view to thumbnails, the thumbnails load in
one by one and that takes some time if a folder has lots of images. I
can live with that. The problem is that whenever I do *anything* with
the image-file (like alter it or delete it or rename it) freeCommander
returns to the top of the pane and begins loading all of the thumbnails
again. As a web designer, I've got LOTS of graphics and I work with
them all the time. I am spending more time waiting for thumbnails than
doing the actual work.

* If I need to copy large files or large groups of files from one drive
to another, I drag the icons from one pane to another in freeCommander.
A few files get copied, but then freeCommander just "stops." Task
Manager says freeCommander is running, but no files or folders are
being copied or moved.

I like freeCommander's bells and whistles, but I am constantly going
back to Windows Explorer to get the work done. If there are any
freeCommander-fanatics out there, please give me some ideas.

Thanks!

You have to select the File and press the right Mouse button.
Now You may rename the file.

If it's ok, I'd like to jump into this thread with my own question. I
can't seem to open my desktop in free commander.

There's an icon for desktop and when I click it the desktop opens as
a tree.

I haven't figured out how to open desktop in one of the panes. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

To see the desktop, use the Window key together with the "D" key.

The freecommander panel shows all link files of the desktop when you
click on the system file button/ desktop.

No. Use the enter key to end the file name.

Refresh is "Crtl&R", but normally has fc a automatic refresh. (See in
the program options, and don't play in the ini.).

Use another program to play with pictures, like IrfanView or
FaststoneViewer.

Use F5 to copy files. So you can see what you do.
