Question to the MVP - Codec ...

Hi Papa John - hope you can help me ...?

I have a few movies, captured and saved with a technisat S-DVB Card.
(mpeg2). I already have installed a lot of codec´s on my machine. Windows
Media Player 9 can play them. But if I want to import such a movie into the
moviemaker I get this errormessage :

The file C:\Documents and settings\DVBS\12-21 18-59-48_VIVA PLUS_Weekend
Lover.mpg cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is
not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and
install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to
import the file again.

Hi Jorg,

Having lots of codecs and even some MPEG2 codecs doesn't
mean that Movie Maker 2 can work with the codec and the
file. Sometimes it's only the software that the codec
came with that can effectively use it.

Unfortunately it's a trial and error thing... so if it
doesn't work with MM2, you'll need another one. See the
Importing Source Files... Video... MPEG2 page of

Jorg,

The closest I can get to that is a listing in GSpot of the codecs, which
includes references to the companies who produced them and gives some of the
URLs.

GSpot is a free utility which helps you assess codecs. I have a link to
download it on my Setup... Software page. Once installed, from the pull down
menu, go to View... Codec Database. There's a bunch.

For MPEG2 files, the best resource to find out what codec you need would
probably be the source of the file(s).
