Question on WebClient methods

F

Frank Rizzo

My app utilizes the WebClient class to get files via FTP and to
interrogate pages via HTTP. However, some sites that the software is
being deployed to does not have always on connections. So I am being
asked to support dial-up and VPN connections. The problem is that I
have neither one available to me (all phone jacks here are digital), so
I can't test.

My question is this. If I setup a dial-up or VPN connection in IE, via
Tools/Options/Connections tab/Add... and set it to 'Always dial my
default connection', will it dial if I try to access the internet from
the WebClient class? And if it does, will a UI popup while dialing?

Thanks.

Hello Frank,

If you have a local intranet conncetion besides the dial-up, the webclient
will try the current intranet conncetion. If there is no such one, a
dial-up dialog will popup, and let user input the dial-up information.
Regarding the issue, I strongly suggest build a real test enviroment with a
dial-up connection, to ensure the webclient will use it.

Sincerely,

Luke Zhang
