question for Jonathan Kay

Norm

I have Windows XP Pro and Windows Messenger 4.7 and I am trying to do a
voice conversation with a Windows 2000 PC with MSN Messenger 5.0
Can Windows Messenger do voice to MSN Messenger and back?
If no do I have to install MSN Messenger in addition to Windows Messenger on
my XP machine? Can I install windows messenger on the win 2k machine?
Will having both cause a problem?

Thanks

Greetings Norm,

All Windows Messenger versions and MSN Messenger 4 (and higher) versions have the same voice
features and are completely compatible with one another. You do not need to install MSN
Messenger on XP nor install Windows Messenger on Windows 2000. If you're still having voice
communication difficulty, what exactly is happening and what is the basic networking
situation involved (routers, firewalls, etc.)?

To answer your other question, MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger are designed to both be
installed at the same time on Windows XP, and on Windows 2000, installing Windows Messenger 5
will uninstall any MSN Messenger installed.
