Question concerning RC1

OK, I was going to can my RC1 installation, but Bill said on John
Stewart's show we could continue using it.

So, I fired it up, did all the updates (funny thing..it loaded a new ATi
driver and video performance DECREASED!) and then set about to do some
work on-line. After some minutes of extensive editing, I clicked SAVE and
got a message "You are currently Off Line. Do you waant to connect?" OK,
sure.

Then a dialer poops up. I'M ON DSL!!! Now, this is a bug in RC1 that I've
known about for a while, and putting the system to sleep activates the
Internet connection.

Not this time...the PC didn't even wake up this time! Any ideas, before I
install yet another version of Linux???

Hardware:
ASRock 939 Dual Sata mobo
Kingston HyperX RAM, 1.5G
ATi (Diamond) 9550 AGP 8X video, 256M RAM
Realtek NIC, included on Mobo (also happens with a 3Com card when I
install it)

Have you tried RC2? RC1 is pretty old and has a number of documented bugs.
