Qn re FP2003 capabilities

David Kinston

hi all

I need to decide whether to use Adobe Golive or switch to FP2003.
My webserver is apache 2 on windows or linux ,which supports webdav.

Will features such as forms, search etc work as advertised when designed in
FP2003 and published to the server using webdav, or is additional
programming/customisation required (golive has this problem).

I am not yet familiar with either webdav or FP2003, but will definitely
go for FP if the answer is positive!!

Please provide any comments or warnings etc that may be relevant!
Or advice as to other options I could consider (but apache is a given).

TIA

The server you publish to must have FrontPage server extensions installed.
Apache for Windows does not support FP server extensions.

David:

You may find that neither GL (no server scripting) nor FP (Apache/Windows no
support for SE) meet your needs. Have you considered adding other packages
to your candidate list?

Actually it would be windows or Linux on Apache 2.

Apache servers "normally" run some flavor of Linux.

Post a link and we can tell you.

Thanks for the replies!

Ideally I'd like the following setup:

FP2003 to create/maintain sites
Apache 2 on windows or linux
webdav not FPSE

With FPSE the scripts required are present on the server.
Does FP2003 upload the required scripts as part of the publish process?
If not, what extra needs to be done to have forms and other features work?
Ideally I'd prefer to avoid the necessity of programming and other fiddling.

ie design the site, publish it, it all 'works' including the interactive
bits.
Too much to hope for?

FP run time components do not use scripts
- must have the FP SE or they just don't work and you can't transfer anything that will make them work w/o the FP SE
