QFE Patch Update

Is it possible to make security update thur. device directly?

Can Microsoft packing the QFE with two kinds of types?
One is under deveopment environment (target designer), The other is thur.
device directly.

Maintenance the QFE via DUA update is very difficult for vendor that provide
eXP image.

Anybody have good idea for this issue? So far the QFE have about 88
patches.
I don't know when vendor can write correctly scripe file for fixingi all
QFEs ??????

One of development eXP image person.

JLL,

I believe there is going to be a rollup package coming
out in the next few months which will cover everything up
to this point. I believe they are also working on getting
it to where you can run the QFE on your runtime without
having to script everything out. All you will have to do
is kickoff the QFE executable.

Don't you kick off the QFE exe to execute with DUA agent (or SMS or anything like that)?
The point is just that it is not going to be completely "no scriptable" solution. And it is not going to work like WU either,
unfortunately.

Yes, you will still have to script the exe, but that's
better than having to script out moving files, reg entries,
etc... I would love it if they could just get it down to
scripting an exe to run. Less chance for disaster. :)

Thats impossible...

There are so many different devices built from us.
How should MS know which files are needed, RegValues,...

Its impossible to build a scriptable exe for all devices...

Mario,

The QFE's are for the most part OS patches. It
shouldn't affect the way your devices function. For the
most part they are patching up exploits in their code.

Hi, all
Did somebody have an experience with QFE "Apply Windows XP
Professional hotfixes to Windows XP Embedded runtimes (824706)"
Below is readme file:
"Installing desktop hotfixes is neither supported nor recommended on
runtimes with the following properties:
Configurations using MinLogon.
Configurations using Enhanced Write Filter (EWF).
Configurations built to run on read-only (R/O) media, such as El
Torito CD-ROM.
Further, the following types of hotfixes are not recommended for
installation on Windows XP Embedded devices:
Kernel updates
Any hotfix which updates the file NTOSKRNL.EXE.
Hotfixes to third-party features "

Your comments are welcome.
