QFE Installer on SP2

I have searched the components for QFE installer, its not there in database.
Then i decided to apply the QFE 824706 which requires QFE 842930 which in
turn requires QFE 811279. I thought XPE SP2 = XPE SP1 + QFEs released after
SP1 release + some enhancements. with this understanding, my guess is that it
may be due to implementation problem of QFE. some one can clarify me on this.

AFAIK, QFE Installer is only available to OEMs (not in standard XPe database).

You have got the right understanding with regards to SP2 content. So, what was the problem with the QFE installation?

From MS Embedded devcon, according to Jon Fincher(MS), the QFE Installer
would be available as part of SP2.

You have got the right understanding with regards to SP2 content. So, what was the problem with the QFE installation?

If the QFE's are already there in SP2 why do i need to install QFE's again????

Hmm. I am not aware of that. I checked - I don't see that component in the SP2 DB either.
Unless MS changed the component name, it is not there.

Anyway, as you probably know, Desktop QFE Installer is a simple component that does not have any files/reg.entries in it. It is just
a set of dependencies that are required to be in your image in order to run QFE desktop installer package (some of them only, btw).

Who said you have to?
I think with SP2 you are going to be interested in QFE packages that were published after the SP2 roll out date.

May be i was not clear about the problem. I have XPe SP2 installed on my
machine. Since QFE Installer is not in database, i decided to apply the QFE
824706 to database. but i was not able to install it asked for QFE 842930
again this asked for repository lookup QFE 811279. Thus i installed QFE811279
then QFE 842930 and then QFE 824706 (QFE Installer).

My question is whether the QFEs 811279, 842930 were already there or not. If
it is present in database why does it requires these two QFEs.

Hi Sankar

The QFE while getting installed may check a reg entry or the fie folder
{xxx} in the repository which may not available in the XP SP2 repository.

Can any one confirm that Applying SP1 QFE to the SP2 repository will not
cause a problem.Since we also need to add SMS server (thro' QFE 822426) to
our image.

I understand your question now.
Well... I haven't played with those QFEs on SP2 but my guess would be that you don't need to install them (just compare the binaries
to confirm) and therefore you may get unpredictable errors while trying to install the QFEs on the top of SP2.

Someone else who tried that may jump in here and help you more.
