Q824706 - Patches and Updates

D

darren

I am trying to update my images at runtime via
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Some of the
patches will download and install while others will not.
I also get an error saying that the cryptograhic service
is not running, but under Services, it shows that it is.

Basically, I need to know what components I need to
install to be able to update my td's in the field.

Thanks,
Darren

PS - I found Q824706 (Desktop QFE Support Component) but
was unable to get it to work - any ideas?

darren,

WU service is not currently supported for XPe.

Read this thread to understand why:

Why would you need to update "td in the field" ? Did you mean update your XPe image in the field? If so, see above.
Also, you may include DUA or SMS client in your image and update the image using the client then (read XPe docs to get more info).
Thanks,
Darren

AFAIK, Microsoft has temporarily remove this QFE. Seems like they are still working on it.

Thanks for the reply,

the problem I'm having is that I have 2 systems in the
field attached to a auto dealership network. It is
consistantly getting infected with the W32.Welchia worm.
I recently installed NAV2004 on both systems, and used
Symantecs tool to remove the infection. I have auto
protect enabled and the latest virus definiton files, but
the machine keeps getting infected.

Is there no viable solution to keep these machines clean.

Any ideas would be apprectiated.

-Darren

As far as running OS Level patches you have to have Device
Update Agent installed. If you don't have this in your
original image you will have to build a new image with DUA
in the build and re-image your runtimes. Also, have you
looked at using EWF?

Darren,

Check out a couple of thread that were a few days earlier: "MSDE" (5/21/2004) and "how to develop installer for our product"
(5/19/2004).
