[Q] Open xls file in different windows

H

hello, i've been searching how to open excel files in
different windows.
does anyone know?

i've tried one but the window name at the bar shows
"Microsoft Excel -filename".
when you opened multi-windows with WORD, the bar is
"filename -Microsoft WORD".

try Tools-->Options and on the View tab check the option "Windows in
Taskbar." This still shows Microsoft Excel - [filename] but it's going to
do that regardless.

XL will reuse the active application instance (if it exists) to open
multiple files. "Windows in Taskbar" will mimic opening files in different
instances but you still won't be able to see both files side by side.

You could either use Windows > Arrange.. to layout your workbooks in your
Window or start a new instance of Excel for each workbook.

Further to my previous post, I believe that previous to XL2002, you could
have separate windows for each file. With XL2002 and later, you'll need to
work around it by doing the following:

If you really want separate instances of excel for each workbook, you could try:

Tools|Options|General|Check Ignore other applications.

But don't use File|open to open addition workbooks--double click on them in
windows explorer or open a separate instance of excel and then file|open.

I can kind of understand windows in taskbar (although I don't use it), but
unless it's a really weird situation, I would think that the same instance of
excel would be more efficient--for windows resources at least.

I, too, am mystified on how to open 2 EXCEL
files/workbooks in separate instances of EXCEL 2002 so
I can view them side by side in different windows.
I went to Tools->Options->View->set
"Windows in Taskbar" but didn't see any difference.

i found a way: just do start->programs->{your excel icon}
as many times as needed and do file->open for each file.

You may want to try unchecking:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications

Then see if doubleclicking on a file in windows|explorer will start a new
instance of excel.

Try checking, not unchecking.

You may want to try unchecking:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications

Then see if doubleclicking on a file in windows|explorer will start a new
instance of excel.
