Putting the system in hibernate mode after a fixed time

Hi,

I want the system to go into Hibernation after 1 hr, but somehow it does not
seem to be possible.

Hibernate is only available with closing the lid, and pressing the power
button triggers .

Also, hibernate option is NOT available from the Start Menu( not there after
the small arrow at the bottom of the menu)

What do I do now? Pls help.

The default in Vista is to use Hybrid Sleep - this combines Standby from XP
with Hibernation. When Sleep activiates, it writes the memory image to disk
as for Hibernation, then goes into standby. After a time, it will then shut
down into a full hibernation state.

To enable Hibernation as a choice on the shutdown menu, Control Panel,
Hardware and Sound, Power Options, Edit your current power plan. Click on
Change Advanced Power Settings, expand Sleep. Expand Allow Hybrid Sleep and
turn off the mode you want (on AC or on Battery) You should then be able to
expand Hibernate After to set the timeout for full hibertation to occur, and
Hibernation will now appear on the shutdown menu.

Thanks Val, I was able to find how to enable hibernate after a timeout. But
it still doesnt appear in the Shut down menu !

One more question, do I really need to disable hibrid sleep to enable
hibernation?

Disabling Hybrid Sleep is what will allow Hibernate to show up in the
shutdown menu. Otherwise, Hibernate is an inherent part of the Sleep
option.

This can be set independantly for on AC and on Battery - it will not
necessarily be the same for both power states.
