Putting And End To The Personal Folders

R

Ryan

Hi,

Hope someone can help me solve this. I have IMAP for my e-mail now and
have setup Outlook to deliver my e-mail to a new set of folders called
"IMAP". However, I still have a set of "Personal Folders" in Outlook I
really want to get rid of and can't find a way.

1. Under tools/options/mail setup/data files it shows two files. One is
"IMAP" and the other is "Personal Folders". While my e-mail is going to
IMAP, it claims that "Personal Folders" is my "Default Data File" and
refuses to let me remove it. It directs me to go to Tools/e-mail
accounts to "select a different delivery location" before I can delete
this data file.

What confuses me is my mail is going to "IMAP", it is not going to the
"Personal Folders" so I have no idea why Outlook feels the Personal
Folders are my default delivery location.

Even odder, when I got to Tools/E-mail Accounts as directed and "View
or Change" the settings on the current IMAP e-mail account, it tells me
"Deliver New Mail to the Following Location" and my ONLY choice is
"Personal Folders". There is no mention of "IMAP" or no way for me to
officialy change it to the IMAP file that I can see in the Data Files
area.

Of course, my mail is being delivered to IMAP, so I am further confused
as to why it claimed my mail is being delivered to Personal Folders.

Ugh!

I want the Personal Folders to disappears and to only see my IMAP
folders in Outlook.

How do I accomplish this? I hope I explained this clearly.

Thanks!

IMAP folders can't hold your Contacts, Calendar or other special Outlook
folders so you need a set of Personal Folders for them

Thanks! I had never heard that before.

OK, that said.. let's see if we can fix my other problem...

1. When I receive e-mail, Outlook properly puts it in my IMAP Inbox.
However, when I send mail, it puts a copy in my Personal Folders "Send
Mail" folder and I have to drag it to my IMAP Sent Mail folder.

How to I get Outlook to stop using the Personal Folders for ANY e-mail?
Looks like I have it 50/50 somehow.

Create a rule that copies outgoing messages to the IMAP folder upon sending
and disable the option for keeping a copy in Sent Items.
