Purchase Advice

Hi,

I am looking for a high speed document scanner (40+ ppm) with good OCR
software and an automatic document feeder. I would also like to save
the scanned files as PDF/Word document. The scanner would be used to
scan documents up to a size of A4 (8.5" by 14") and around 600 pages a
week.

I was recommended these scanners by a sales rep.

Fijitsu 5650 - easy to maintain, better paper jam detection

Canon DR 3060 - replacing rollers not so easy, paper jam
detection is not so good, high speed

Bell Howell - Sidekick 1400 comes with good software

Kodak i80

I am absolutely confused with what to buy. Could somebody please
suggest a solution that works and is reliable?

Thanks,
v

The choice is yours.

Have you done any research on the internet?
You do know about Google.com as your post comes via Google.

There a usually very good sources to read about many things including Office
quality scanners.
http://www.google.com/froogle?q=networked+scanner&btnG=Search+Froogle

The above link is to Network capable scanners that can be used in a small or
large office.
Of which one is a Kodak i80.

I finally made my decision and bought the Fujitsu Fi-4530c. I bought it
at Amazon and had it shipped and scanning in 3 days. I am very happy
with the scanner. It is very compact so does not take a lot of space on
my desk. It detects paper jams very quickly. It did come with Adobe
Acrobat 6.0. and trial versions of some software.

I had a tough time deciding between canon DR-3080CII and Fi-4530c, but
according to my reading the rollers on such document scanners have to
be cleaned ever 2000 to 5000 scans and on canon they are not so easy to
clean as they are on the inside. Besides a lot of people had complains
with the driver. And lastly fi-4530c has max resolution of 600 x 600
DPI while the canon has 300 X 300 dpi.

In my opinion this scanner is a perfect balance of speed/quality/price.
I scanned papers with different thickness and it worked just fine. I
guess it is because the paper goes in and out without being flipped 180
degrees as in most scanners.

Hope this helps someone who is as confused as I was with all the
options available.
